The third suspect has turned himself in after two others were arrested in connection with an Oct. 4 aggravated robbery of Swan Cleaners, 1247 N. Hamilton Road, Gahanna.

The Gahanna Police Department had issued an arrest warrant for Richard D. Harrell for complicity to aggravated robbery, and two others were arrested last week regarding the same incident.

According to police, Harrell turned himself in to the Gahanna police station at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25.

Carla L. Spaulding, 35, of 2203 McGuffey St., Columbus, was arrested and charged with complicity to robbery. James L. Varney, 21, of 3571 Cypress Club Way, Columbus, was arrested for aggravated robbery.

Police said a suspect went into the business Oct. 4, pointing a semiautomatic handgun at a female at the front desk and telling her to get on the floor. The suspect then allegedly took all of the money in the cash register and demanded that the employee give him her purse, police said. The suspect exited the business and ran about a block away to a waiting vehicle, described as a red or maroon four-door car, occupied by at least two other people.

After Gahanna police sought the public's assistance through various media Oct. 20, a tip led to the arrest of Spaulding and Varney the following day, and an arrest warrant was issued for Harrell. Harrell had been incarcerated at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility beginning Jan. 21, 2000, for receiving stolen property, attempted murder and robbery. He was released Aug. 24 of this year.

Gahanna police located and impounded the vehicle that was used in the Oct. 4 robbery, as well as the handgun, a Colt .25-caliber semiautomatic pistol that was used in the crime.

ThisWeekNEWS.com on Monday reported that police were seeking Harrell and posted his photo.
