The Jefferson Elementary PTO is hoping for a $20,000 jog.The annual Jog for Jefferson PTO fundraiser will kick off with an assembly Sept. 2. The jog, whose theme this year is "Make It Matter," is slated for Sept. 23.

The goal for the jog is $20,000, event communications coordinator Natalie Grayson said.

"The $20,000 is earmarked for PTO-sponsored activities such as field trips, classroom support and an author visit," she said. "Special purchase items include new mats for the gym, iPad 2s for the classroom and flip cameras for all of the rooms."

Over the past three years, the fundraiser has generated more than $70,000.

The 500-student elementary school depends on the PTO to help fund educational enrichment projects, including field trips, computer enhancements, art, music, assemblies, playground equipment and science labs.

A walking track was built three years ago from the jog, Grayson said.

Students earn prizes from local businesses for jogging the most laps and collecting pledge money.

In addition to the jog, other activities sponsored by the PTO include the school-supplies sale, holiday shop, spaghetti dinner, spring musical and carnival.

The PTO also funds all in-school assemblies, the fifth-grade party, BizTown and annual Halloween and Valentine's parties.
