Kroger customers soon may pick up and drop off their prescriptions at a pharmacy drive-thru kiosk at Kroger, 1365 Stoneridge Drive.

The Gahanna Planning Commission on April 11 approved a conditional use, final development plan and design review for the unmanned drive-thru kiosk, as well as facade improvements of the existing building.

Planning and zoning administrator Bonnie Gard said the proposal had come before the commission previously when concerns were raised about safety and landscape islands.

"The applicant has taken into account the recommendations from the previous application and added more landscape islands for increased safety and maneuvering," she said.

The Kroger front facade improvements will create a central entry point, as opposed to two points that currently exist.

Gard said a 10-foot walkway would be tapered at each end, running in front of the main entrance, and a 40-foot pedestrian walkway would be striped on the pavement. The handicapped spaces would be restriped to would accommodate the width of the new construction, Gard said.

Project manager Andrew Gardner of Bird & Bull said some improvements also would be made inside the store.

"We feel it's a much-needed improvement, with no sidewalk in front of the building now," he said.

Commission member David Andrews questioned the absence of a lane for pickup and drop-off at the drive-thru.

Gardner cited parking constraints and that Kroger generally sees three cars per hour at the drive-thru.

"Rarely is it stacking up," he said. "It hasn't been an issue to have multiple lanes."

Andrews thanked Kroger representatives for taking into consideration the concerns of the commission from the previous application.

In other action, the commission approved a final development plan and design review for an outdoor patio for Rusty Bucket at the Commons at Clark Hall, 73-109 N. Hamilton Road.

Several pieces of related legislation for 360 S. Hamilton Road, Southgate Crossing, were postponed to a workshop set for 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 25.

Design review for a parking lot at LeaderPromos Inc., 790 E. Johnstown Road, also was postponed to the commission's April 25 meeting.
