A Huntington National Bank and Tim Hortons with drive-thru will be at the redeveloping Southgate Crossing, following the Gahanna Planning Commission's April 25 approval of legislation in the matter.

Following the commission's April 11 request, applicant Sean Sanford of Massillon Realty Investment brought color and design options for the 2,916-square-foot bank to be built on the southern portion of the 1.345-acre site.

Several commission members had opposed the dark colors originally proposed for the bank, noting the scheme didn't complement the Hunters Ridge Shopping Center.

Deputy development director Leah Evans said the approved light-red brick and sandstone are more in line with the shopping center. The bank building also has larger windows than originally proposed.

Commission member Dave Andrews said he's still "on the fence" with the design.

"It's definitely better," he said. "I like (the colors) we picked, but I'm still not in love with the building."

The bank replaces the Circle K gas station and retail center that had been approved at the site.

In other action, the commission approved a certificate of appropriateness for Firehouse Subs, which plans to open at 406 Granville Road.
