County fair marks 95 years July 14-21

The 2012 Franklin County Fair is scheduled July 14-21 with an array of familiar and new attractions.

"Celebrating 95 Years of Fun" is the motto of this year's eight-day fair, which will be held at the Franklin County Fairgrounds, 4100 Columbia Road in Hilliard.

The fairgrounds are accessible from Northwest Parkway, Norwich Street, Main Street and Avery Road.

Returning this year to the fair are perennial and popular attractions such as tractor pulls, truck pulls and the demolition derby.

Franklin County Idol, a vocal talent show modeled after American Idol, also returns for a fifth season.

New events this year are a fashion show and the Fair Chance Dog Show, specifically for rescue and shelter dogs so for fairgoers can meet dogs available for adoption.

Daily entertainment at 2012 Franklin County Fair includes the Fantazia Circus, No Joe's Clown Circus, Dr. Insecta Bug Lab and a game show, Only Takes a Minute to Win It. The grandstand also will feature evening entertainment.

Gates open at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 14, and close at 11 p.m. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 15, through Thursday, July 19, and from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, July 20, and Saturday, July 21.

General admission is $5, except on July 14 and 21, when admission is $6

"The Franklin County Fair is one of the oldest fairs in the state of Ohio," said Natalie Walston, a spokeswoman for the Franklin County Fair.

"We are proud of our tradition and this year's fair provides a big bang for your buck," she said.

"There are so many kinds of wonderful family entertainment," Walston said.
