Gahanna resident Andre T. Porter has been named director of the Ohio Department of Commerce, effective April 22.
Porter, who currently serves as a commissioner for the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, replaces David Goodman, who was named Development Services Agency director last month.
Gov. John Kasich appointed Porter to the PUCO in February 2011. As a PUCO commissioner, Porter dealt with the regulation of Ohio's utilities and addressed business and consumer challenges related to the electricity grid and wholesale electricity markets.
Prior to his PUCO appointment, Porter was an attorney at the Schottenstein Zox & Dunn Co., LPA (now Ice Miller, LLP), where he counseled commercial and industrial businesses, municipalities, and trade associations on energy and utility regulation, as well as real estate tax issues.
Porter received his bachelor's degree in political science from Capital University and his law degree from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
