Concerts to feature student orchestras
Nearly 300 students in the Gahanna orchestras will present their District Spring Concerts at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 13 and Tuesday, May 14, in the Lincoln High School auditorium, 140 S. Hamilton Road.
Admission is free and the public is welcome.
Monday's concert will feature the district sixth grade, seventh grade and LHS Symphony Orchestras and include Deep Sea Fandango, which musically quotes the Theme from Jaws; Percy Grainger's jovial British Waterside; and Declarations, an overture dedicated to "the inalienable rights enjoyed by every person in America" and composed by Jeffrey Bishop.
Five seniors and their families will be honored: violinists Chris Keener, Courtney Henderson, Kayla Jones and Emily Jadwin; and cellist Stephanie McCann.
Tuesday's concert will feature the district eighth grade, and the LHS Freshman and Chamber Orchestras. Senior violinist Chris Keener will be featured during a performance of Vivaldi's Violin Concerto in A minor.
Attendees also will enjoy Night Train by Duke Ellington and made popular by Jimmy Forrest; a celebration of the Japanese art of paper folding in which the instruments are bowed, plucked and strummed with paper; and a collection of famous African-American spirituals.
Concerts will also feature students who earned a superior rating at the OMEA Solo and Ensemble adjudicated events in February.
