Creekside festival goes mobile with QR code

By

Visitors to Gahanna's Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival on June 14-16 will be able to find stage schedules, vendor menus and other event-related information, thanks to the debut of a festival QR code.

Gahanna GIS technician Jaclyn Meade has created the quick-response code for the festival that is presented by the Gahanna Convention & Visitors Bureau.

"I am really excited about the debut of the mobile site for the festival," she said. "The goal is to provide an interactive map for the festival that will give valuable information to the user, like stage schedules, food-vendor menus and shuttle details."

The mobile site works by scanning the QR code, which is associated with the mobile site's URL.

Once scanned, the user's mobile device will open the site though its Internet or scan application.

"So there's nothing to download unless you do not have the scan app already installed," Meade said. "From there the user can select pop-up-enabled stars that give them details about the vendors, amenities and stages, as well as display the festival area."

Another feature she hopes to have working by June 14 is a search function that will either search things that are nearby or allow users to search a specific item at the festival, like food vendors, shuttle stops or restrooms.

"From there you can select a result from the list, and the site will even give you directions to get there from your current location," she said. "We will have QR codes all around the festival, as well as maps and details printed, so you don't need a mobile device to be able to access all the great information that is provided through the site."

Meade said the addition of the QR code offers another way for people to get the most out of their Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival experience.

"A growing number of people are using mobile devices to get instant information, and we want people to know all of the exciting things that will be available," she said.

The QR code is associated with the website: map.gahanna.gov//cbj/, so when users scan the code, their device will open that website.
