Cameron Mitchell anticipates a new upscale casual steakhouse to become a regional dining destination in Gahanna next spring.
Cameron Mitchell Restaurants recently announced two new concepts to its hometown culinary scene in Columbus, including a steakhouse at the former Hoggy's Bar & Grille, 1370 E. Johnstown Road, and a polished-casual grille in the heart of Upper Arlington.
The steakhouse is expected to open in May 2014 at Rogers Market, with seating for 330 guests inside.
Wendy Middleton, current general manager and operating partner at Gahanna's Cap City Diner, will be the general manager of the steakhouse that's yet to be named.
She said everyone is excited about the new restaurant that will launch as dinner-only and may eventually include brunch.
Situated on three acres, the steakhouse will feature a large dining room, an in-house butchering room, a bake shop, an extensive Bourbon Lounge, and an expansive terrace overlooking a creek and manicured grounds.
The menu will boast a wide selection of Black Angus steaks, house smoked ribs and chicken, with family-sized sides for sharing.
Fresh, local produce and housemade desserts will round out the menu that's designed to attract families and friends celebrating special occasions or wanting a relaxing night together.
Middleton said the restaurant's decor will be rustic, yet classy.
"Currently we are in the beginning stages of the design and have plans to renovate the interior and exterior," said David Miller, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants executive vice president.
A press release said the early-American design of the restaurant will transport guests and is expected to become a regional dining destination for visitors and residents in neighboring counties.
Miller told ThisWeek approximately 80 to 100 employees will work at the steakhouse.
"Gahanna is a growing, vibrant community and has supported our Cap City Fine Diner & Bar for the past 15 years," he said. "We look forward to bringing our newest concept to the city."
This year marks the local restaurant group's 20th year in business, and Mitchell said he's excited to develop and open two new diverse restaurants in his hometown in 2014.
"Our company truly enjoys the creation of something new and the opportunity to introduce new concepts," he said, in a press release. "This expansion is the perfect way to celebrate our anniversary, support our communities and give back to Columbus. Our growth also provides opportunities for our current associates to further their careers within our company and will create new openings for future associates to join our CMR family."
The heart of Arlington will be the setting for the company's first "American grille" concept slated to open in February of 2014 at "The Lane."
The restaurant will feature a modern take on classic American cuisine and will offer an extensive variety of starters, flatbreads, prime steaks, rotisserie roasted chicken and knife & fork sandwiches.
A 200-bottle wine list, artfully crafted cocktails and a uniquely crafted beer list will complement the hearty menu.
An exhibition kitchen, walnut and cherry woods and unique light fixtures will invite guests to relax in the comfort of leather booths.
As a life-long resident of Arlington, Mitchell envisions this restaurant to be a local favorite gathering spot for lunch, happy hour and dinner.
"This is an exciting time for CMR as we continue to evolve our brands and our signature hospitality," Mitchell said. "Columbus has been good to us and we're enthusiastic for this next chapter of our company's history. There are so many great restaurateurs in this city and we look forward to continuing to help put Columbus on the national culinary map."
