Donate a can of food to help Gahanna Residents In Need, and get free admission to the Gahanna Swimming Pool, 148 Parkland Drive, from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1.
Merri Jo Linton, of GRIN, said summer is a difficult time for the pantry, and the shelves are almost bare.
The pantry is at Mifflin Presbyterian Church, 123 Granville St.
"July is one of the highest months where people need to come in," she said.
Items that are most needed are peanut butter, cereal, canned meat and pasta sauce, but any donation is welcomed, Linton said.
GRIN volunteers will help staff the pool's hot dog night that's held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. every Thursday through Aug. 15.
Gahanna Residents In Need, a community-wide, faith-based organization, was founded in 1998.
Food and financial assistance are provided the first and third Thursdays of the month from 6 to 8 p.m., the second and fourth Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and the last Tuesday of the month from 6 to 8 p.m. Those needing assistance should go to the back door of the church and register at the GRIN table.
The food pantry is available once per month per client.
Anyone needing assistance first should contact HandsOn Central Ohio at 614-221-2255, and then contact GRIN at 614-471-4491, ext. 61, or email email@example.com.
