Gahanna Community Theatre is searching for its own music man as it prepares to present the musical of the same name in February.
Auditions will be held for four adult male roles of Harold Hill, Marcellus, Mayor Shinn and Tommy Djilis and three adult female roles of Marian, Mrs. Paroo and Eulalie Shinn-from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at Gahanna Middle School West, 350 Stygler Road.
Candidates should bring a prepared number to sing. An accompanist will be provided. Callbacks will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the school.
"We decided to bring back The Music Man because it's a wonderful family show," said Char McCasland, producer and GCT founder. "After we did Annie last year, we brought many new and young families into the fold of GCT. We wanted to do something to bring those families and those friends back."
Many youngsters, including many young parents, have never seen Meredith Wilson's The Music Man, McCasland said.
The plot of the show involves con man Harold Hill, who poses as a band organizer and leader, selling band instruments and uniforms to naive townspeople before skipping town with the cash.
In 1957, the show became a hit on Broadway, winning five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
"We felt this production will be a gift to our community," McCasland said. "It's lots of fun, laughter, memorable music and dance, along with a wonderful story about believing in yourself."
She said GCT isn't auditioning for the quartet or the children's roles.
The show will be held in February 2014 in the Gahanna Lincoln High School auditorium
