Gahanna-area residents may honor those who served during "Veterans Appreciation Day," the theme of the Gahanna Veterans Memorial Committee program, on Monday, Nov. 11.
The service will be held beginning at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 73 W. Johnstown Road.
The main speaker will be state Rep. Anne Gonzales (R-Westerville).
She's in her second term in the Ohio House of Representatives, serving the 19th District, including parts of Gahanna.
During her time as a state representative, she has served as vice chair of health and aging, as a member of the public utilities committee and as a member of the finance committee.
In addition to Gonzales, WBNS-10TV news anchor Kristyn Hartman will participate in the program by welcoming guests, leading the Pledge of Allegiance, dedicating 24 memorial bricks and concluding the service.
Prior to joining 10TV, Hartman worked as a reporter and news anchor for nearly eight years at WBBM in Chicago.
Over her 19 years in the industry, Hartman has produced shows, shot video, edited, reported and anchored.
Other participants in the Veterans Day program will include a presentation of colors and 21-gun salute by VFW Post 4719 and American Legion Post 797.
The national anthem will be led by Tom Kennedy, and the wreath will be placed by Capt. Zach McGregor, Army combat medic/Iraq veteran (2004-05). He's a surgical intensive-care nurse at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
Taps will be played by Tristen Conover of Capital University, and Amazing Grace will be played on bagpipes by Nicholas Bosca, an eighth-grader at Gahanna Middle School East.
Bob Fickle, Veterans Memorial Committee spokesperson, said coffee, hot chocolate and cookies would be served at the service. He also said the Gahanna Convention & Visitors Bureau is seeking veterans to march in the Holiday Lights! parade Friday, Nov. 29.
Interested veterans should meet at Clark Hall, at Granville Street and Hamilton Road, between 4 and 4:30 p.m.
In addition to the service sponsored by the Veterans Memorial Committee, Gahanna Lincoln High School will host a ceremony from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the memorial outside the school Thursday, Nov. 7.
Matt McGregor, Lincoln High School English teacher and chief warrant officer in the Ohio Army National Guard Reserve, will be the guest speaker. He's an Iraq veteran.
