Speech and debate team places first at Upper Arlington

The Gahanna Lincoln High School speech and debate team competed at Upper Arlington High School on Saturday, Nov. 9, placing first overall.

Placing first were seniors Sedona Rosenberg in US extemporaneous speaking and Matthew Zianni in student congress, junior Heather Rice in prose/poetry and sophomore Nithika Badam in humorous interpretation.

Placing second was junior Eric Velazquez in humorous interpretation.

In third were seniors Max Agranoff and Kyle Clark in public forum debate and Megan Ellsesser in student congress, and junior Loie Greenwood in original oratory, and in fourth place were seniors Jassy Da Silva and Skye Booth in public forum debate and Sumeet Kotwal in US extemporaneous speaking

Rounding out the top six were juniors Nick Pagliaro in Lincoln Douglas debate and Caleb Webb in humorous interpretation.

Overall Gahanna placed first with 80 points.

On Nov. 16, Gahanna will compete at Maumee. Gahanna will host the 14th Annual Rotary Club of Gahanna Tournament on Dec. 14.

The team is coached by speech and debate teacher Lyle Linerode, English teacher Kristen Juth, former competitor Evan Ecos and volunteer Bruce Mann.
