Speech/debate team 11th in latest contest

The Gahanna Lincoln High School speech and debate team competed in its largest tournament of the year at Sylvania Northview and Southview High Schools on Jan. 10-11.

Advancing out of the preliminary rounds to the final rounds and placing second were senior Sedona Rosenberg in US extemporaneous speech and junior Loie Greenwood in original oratory.

Placing fourth in student congress was senior Matthew Zianni.

Advancing to the semifinals and placing in the top 12 were senior Sarah Beavers in oratorical interpretation and junior Summit Rosenberg in humorous interpretation. Senior Megan Ellsesser advanced to the semifinal round of student congress.

Also advancing out of preliminary rounds in public forum debate were seniors Max Agranoff and Kyle Clark with a 4-3 overall record. Sophomore Stephen Sponhour advanced in Lincoln Douglas with a 4-3 record.

Overall, Gahanna placed 11th out of 41 teams. In debate, Gahanna placed eighth out of 41, and in speech Gahanna placed 13 out of 41.

The team is coached by speech and debate teacher Lyle Linerode, English teacher Kristen Juth, former competitor Evan Ecos and volunteer Bruce Mann.
