Gahanna Gala celebrates decade of promoting excellence

By ThisWeek Community News  •

The Gahanna-Jefferson Education Foundation invites guests to a "10 Year Celebration" during the Gahanna Gala, set for 6:30-10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Villa Milano, 1630 Schrock Road.

"Our theme is just a time of celebration," said Dale Foor, GJEF president. "It will be a party mood.

"The education foundation has been blessed to have general business partners and a very caring community that have supported our fundraising efforts over the last 10 years, allowing us to enrich our educational programs and provide excellence across the district," Foor said.

Event attendees bid on live- and silent-auction items at the Gahanna Gala, formerly known as the Celebration of Excellence, with proceeds benefiting the district's students. In December the foundation awarded more than $50,000 in grants district-wide.

Foor said some of this year's live-auction items include a week's stay at a cabin in Harbor Springs, Mich.; dinner for eight, including wine and desserts, at Cameron Mitchell Restaurant's new steak house, The Barn at Rocky Fork; a houseboat on Cumberland Lake for a week; a villa in Mexico for a week; an OSU-Kent State tailgate package for eight; golf and lunch for four at Firestone Country Club; a gourmet meal for eight by private chef Kevin Stuhldreher, with a harpist at the winner's home; a suite for 12 at a Columbus Crew game, with food and spirit-ware provided, sponsored by Heartland Bank; tickets to a Columbus Blue Jackets game, with a suite to include food and beverages; and use of a photo booth for a private party.

"We anticipate over 500 silent-auction items, including a diamond table with high-end auction items," Foor said.

Another auction item will be what's being touted as a "leadership experience." The winning bidder will meet with Gahanna Mayor Becky Stinchcomb, be her guest at lunch and sit with her on the dias during a City Council meeting.

Strathmore Development Co., on behalf of the Nationwide Children's Hospital duck race, is sponsoring a gift basket with a $100 Ciao Vino Italian Kitchen gift card, with four ducks to be entered in this year's duck race at the Creekside Lagoon on Saturday, Aug. 23. Owners of the top three winning ducks will receive a one-year prepaid lease for a BMW 1 Series convertible courtesy of BMW Financial Services, groceries for a year from Kroger and $2,500 from Smarter Mortgages, respectively.

Strathmore also has donated lunch for eight at The Wine Guy, with Ohio State University Buckeyes analyst Tony White, and lunch with Olympian Butch Reynolds at Bon Vie.

Food vendors at the gala will be Hickory House, Olive Garden, Cap City Diner, Bon Vie, Panera Bread, Piada, Cold Stone Creamery, Fado Irish Pub, the Melting Pot, the Worthington, Bob Evans, Golden Delight Bakery, King Gyro Greek Restaurant, Old Bag of Nails, Embassy Suites, Koko Tea Salon & Bakery and Gigi's Cupcakes.

Gala sponsors are Dynalab, Kroger, Lew Griffin Insurance and M/I Homes.

Individual tickets cost $50.
