Selected members of the Gahanna Lincoln High School speech and debate team competed the weekend of Feb. 15 at the Western Ohio District Qualifier of the National Forensic League. The contest was held at Cincinnati Princeton High School.
Qualifying to Nationals are seniors Sedona Rosenberg in US extemporaneous speaking and Sarah Beavers in original oratory.
Alternates are juniors Loie Greenwood in original oratory and Summit Rosenberg in humorous interpretation.
Other students who advanced are Stephen Sponhour in Lincoln Douglas debate; Skye Booth, Jassy Da Silva, Max Agranoff and Matthew Zianni in public forum debate; Jennie McAndrew and Gabby Howell in original oratory; and Caleb Webb in dramatic interpretation.
The National Forensic League finals will be held June 15-21, in Overland Park, Kan.
The Ohio High School Speech League State Finals will be held at Wooster High School Feb. 27 through March 1.
On March 15, selected team members will compete at the national qualifier for student congress at the Ohio Statehouse.
Varsity Varieties, the annual schoolwide talent show and major fundraiser for the speech and debate and theater programs will be held at 7:30 p.m. March 6 through 8 in the high school auditorium.
The team is coached by speech and debate teacher Lyle Linerode, English teacher Kristen Juth, former competitor Evan Ecos and volunteer Bruce Mann.
