Boes receives gold award

Sarah Boes of Gahanna recently received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.

To earn the award, Boes completed a project called Elementary School Gardens. Her project focused on planting an environmentally friendly rain garden at McVay Elementary School in Westerville. The rain garden absorbs excess water, preventing polluted run-off from entering the storm drains. It also will prevent excess water from forming mud puddles, which was a problem at the school.

Some universities and colleges offer scholarships unique to Gold Award recipients, and girls who enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces may receive advanced rank in recognition of their achievements.
