Gahanna Lincoln High School senior Tyler Grassman signed Feb. 1 to play football at the University at Buffalo.

Last season, Grassman stepped in as quarterback in Week 1 after starter Alec Tuohy suffered a season-ending injury. Grassman, 6-foot-1, 178 pounds, completed 143 of 227 passes for 1,818 yards with 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also led the Lions in rushing with 644 yards and six touchdowns.

As place-kicker, Grassman converted seven of nine field-goal attempts, with a long of 46 yards, and made 39 of 43 extra-point attempts.

"When duty called, he stepped right in," Lions coach John Snoad said. "(Grassman) had a phenomenal year at quarterback and the intangibles are the leadership qualities and the competitive edge he brings."

Grassman was named OCC-Ohio Division Player of the Year and was first-team all-district as a kicker, as Gahanna finished 9-3 and reached a Division I, Region 3 semifinal before losing to eventual state runner-up Pickerington Central 41-10.

Buffalo is a member of the Mid-American Conference. The Bulls finished 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the MAC last season.

Also on Feb. 1, three other Gahanna seniors — Julian Lowe, Kevin Mosley and Robert Mitchell — signed to play for Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, W.Va. The Battlers, who are in Division II, will play their first football season in 2012.

Last season, Lowe, a wide receiver and defensive back, had 48 catches for 640 yards and three touchdowns and was named first-team all-league and special mention all-district. Mosley, a defensive lineman, made second-team all-league and honorable mention all-district, and Mitchell, a defensive back, made special mention all-league.
