Gahanna Lincoln High School senior Javon Bess earned his second all-star game MVP of the offseason while leading the South to a 102-100 win over the North in the Divisions I-II Ohio North-South boys basketball game April 27 at Ohio Dominican University.
Bess, a Michigan State signee who also was MVP in the Ohio-Kentucky game April 12, scored 28 points, including four 3-pointers. He also had nine rebounds and six assists.
Upper Arlington’s Kevin Vannatta, a UNC-Asheville signee, had 16 points. Olentangy Liberty’s Mike DeLeon scored 13 and Newark’s Teddy Metzen added seven for the South.
In the Divisions III-IV boys game, Hartley’s Chris Moxley scored 12 points to help the South beat the North 100-80.
In the Divisions I-II girls game, Reynoldsburg’s Alyssa Rice scored a team-best 13 points for the South but her team lost to the North 95-48. Johnstown’s Natalie Carpenter had six points and Newark’s Maggie Mitchell scored four.
In the Divisions III-IV girls game, Worthington Christian’s Ali Spayde had 11 points for the South as her team lost 89-62.
