The SouthPointe MarketPlace will kick off its inaugural Fall Harvest on Friday.

The SouthPointe MarketPlace Farmers Market will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at 3459 S. High St. There will be a live band and several farmers offering fresh fall produce.

In its first year, the market -- which opened in May -- was created to promote healthy foods on the city's south side.

The market was expected to close for the season after the summer. However, local support from shoppers and vendors has caused the market to remain open.

Supported by a United Way grant through the Children's Alliance, the market is believed to be the only one of its kind in Columbus that accepts the Ohio Direction Card, according to Shayne Trapuzzano, market manager.

The farmers market is open 2-6 p.m. each Friday, and is expected to have produce until the Friday before Thanksgiving.
