A Catholic service and social group is organizing a fundraiser to benefit St. Mary School.

The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians will hold a Christmas Craft Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the school, 700 S. Third St. The event is in its second year.

Admission is $1 and includes a raffle ticket for a gift basket.

"We were looking for new ways to fundraise and work together in conjunction with a Catholic school," said even organizer Mary Higgins. "Our idea was to make it a Christmas bazaar, which is very popular around here."

Higgins said plans for this year's event are still being developed, but it will be similar to the previous bazaar. Between 30 and 50 crafters are expected to sell their wares at the event.

"We do have several crafters returning and some new crafters," Higgins said.

Unlike some bazaars, the upcoming event is strictly limited to handmade items, she said.

"Our requirement is that they are crafts," Higgins said. "We don't have anything like Avon or Mary Kay."

Examples of items expected to be sold at the event are candles, gift baskets, jewelry, wreaths, pens, clothing and knitted items.

Higgins said her group plans to make the bazaar an annual event.

"I'm hoping that we having a better bazaar, although last year's was very good," Higgins said.
