Winter Expedition, 1 p.m. Sunday at the naturalist office. Take a three-mile walk on the plains of the Darby Creek Greenway Trail.

Wildlife Observation Night, 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Nature Center. Look through the Nature Center windows and see if you can spot nocturnal wildlife.

Just for Kids: The Miracle of Plants, 10 a.m. Saturday at the Nature Center. Discover the functions of plant parts as you make and eat a salad. Bring an empty jar to take home sprouting seeds. For ages 6-12.

Life Under the Snow, 2 p.m. Saturday at the Nature Center. Learn how some creatures survive under snow cover on a half-mile hike.

Preschoolers: Groundhog Day Preview, 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Nature Center. Learn how hibernating animals wake up from their winter sleep.

Chestnut Ridge Metro Park

38th Annual Winter Hike Series, 10 a.m. Sunday at the Springhouse Program Area. Take a 1.4- or two-mile guided or self-guided hike, followed by hot drinks and food.

Highbanks Metro Park

Wonderful World of Winter Birding, 11 a.m. Saturday at the Nature Center. Learn about food sources and recipes you can use for birds and create a bird observation journal.

Inniswood Metro Gardens

Annual Quilt Show, Jan. 29-Feb. 6 at the Innis House. View quilts made by the Columbus Metropolitan Quilters. At select times, members will be available to answer questions.

Off-Trail Exploration, 2 p.m. Sunday at the Glacier Knoll Picnic Area. Look for signs of wildlife on a two-mile hike.

Harrier Hike, 2 p.m. Sunday at the Prairie View Picnic Area. Look for northern harriers on a two-mile hike through the prairie.

Slate Run Metro Park

Coyotes Calls, 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Buzzard's Roost Picnic Area. Take a 1.5-mile hike and use calls and bait to try to bring coyotes into view.

Three Creeks Park

38th Annual Winter Hike Series, 10 a.m. Saturday at the Confluence Trails bulletin board. Take a one-, three- or six-mile guided or self-guided hike along the creeks, followed by soup and hot drinks.
