The Columbus Department of Public Service has decided against installing a bike shelter on South Third Street in German Village.

Opposition from the community caused the city to rethink its position on the shelter, which was to be placed on the west side of Third in front of Cup O’ Joe, said Steven Cordetti, a spokesman for the department.

The issue never was presented formally to the German Village Commission or the German Village Society board of trustees. When the city announced the proposed location, grumblings from the community began, said Jody Graichen, director of historic preservation for the German Village Society. That’s when the GVS became involved and worked with the city to seek an alternate location in the neighborhood.
