Local gardeners have until Saturday to order plants prior to the German Village GartenMarkt, slated for May 12 in front of the Meeting Haus.

Sara McNealey, a member of the German Village Garten Club, said garden enthusiasts have their pick of red and white geraniums in 4-, 6- and 10-inch pots; red, white and mixed-color impatiens, 36 to a flat; caladium; dragon-winged begonias in six packs; asparagus ferns; and Boston ferns in hanging baskets.

"It's a tremendous opportunity to support the garden club," McNealey said.

"These prices are very, very reasonable. You won't find this quality anywhere else."

Orders can be placed online at germanvillagartenclub.com. The plants will be available for pickup the day of the market.

The 46 annual GartenMarkt, to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., will feature 19 vendors – eight of whom are new to the market – who will offer everything from garden accessories to bird houses.

"It's composed of displays that have been popular in the past, as well as a broader variety," said Bill Doughton, marketing director for this year's market.

"It's not just about flowers," Doughton said.

Other vendors could be added in the next two weeks, he said.

The market will be preceded by Jazz and Juleps, where participants can indulge in cocktails, food and live music, and have first dibs on the merchandise that will be on sale the following day.

Tickets for Jazz and Juleps, to be held from 7 to 9 p.m. May 11, are $30. Tickets must be purchased by May 5 and can be obtained by calling McNealey at 614-461-4625.

"It's always been a popular tradition and equal in popularity to the GartenMarkt itself," Doughton said.

GartenMarkt is the largest fundraiser for the German Village Garten Club, which takes care of the flower boxes along South Third Street, maintains the landscaping in Frank Fetch Park, and provides educational programs, communications and tours.

The club also organizes the summer concert series at the park.
