Haus und Garten Tour, PreTour will be hot tickets

By

Here we are at Feb. 21 and that means Haus und Garten Tour 2013 is just 129 days away. Grab your calendar and write this down -- you're going to want to be in the Village for Tour, Sunday, June 30, and for PreTour the night before.

The theme this year: "Reel Life: German Village." Playing on that movie theme, PreTour dinners will play with the theme "Lights-Camera-Dinner," so expect to see your favorite silver screen moments or genres played out as dinner menus.

This year's Tour co-chairmen, Kristyn and Chris Hartman, are off to a fast start lining up Tour homes.

From an uber-bachelor pad to a sculptor's studio to a trifecta of styles along Sycamore Street, there promises to be dozens of inspirational moments.

As she often does this time of year, Alberta Stevens is seeking beautiful gardens to pepper in along the route. We are aiming, in total, for 13 in '13.

Team PreTour 2013, which includes Ken Hunger, Marie Trudeau, Jim and Jo Plunkett, Michele McFadden and Maurice Manring, and Hal and Phyllis Duryee, have secured more than 200 seats for PreTour. If you'd like to host a dinner and haven't yet been contacted, please give me a call.

PreTour, of course, is the night when 600 of our closest friends get to go through the homes that will be on Tour the next day without waiting in line.

Those ticketholders also often get to see parts of the homes that won't be open to the public on Sunday PLUS, after touring the homes, the $150 ticket ($125 for GVS members) gets them dinner either in one of those private homes mentioned above, or at Party on the Platz. POP chairs Alena Marand and Sarah Kasey are your dynamic planners and hosts for that event, held outdoors at the Meeting Haus June 29.

Don't want to wait in line June 30? Well, PreTour is clearly one way to get around the lines.

But, thanks to our work this year with Raising Green Production's Tanya Rutner, we have brand new ways to line skip on Tour day.

When tickets go on sale later this spring, look for the "Autobahn" pass. Think FASTPASS at Disney World. This very limited-release, $50 pass means you go to the front of the line all day long.

Add to your Autobahn pass another new idea this year to avoid the golf cart lines. For $500, you and up to five friends can be chauffeured around the event in your own private golf cart!

Fun, right?

One more new idea for 2013: we are adding a young professionals option for PreTour. A $75 ticket (limited to those 35 and younger) allows you to tour the homes Saturday, June 29, then attend the cocktail party on Willow Street.

No dinner or Party on the Platz with these passes, but young professionals can join the Saturday fun for half the price.

Tanya and I are working diligently under the steady guidance (for the FOURTH year in a row) of Board Liaison to the Tour Darci Congrove.

Stay tuned for more Tour updates in this space. And I will see you at the end of June.
