AARP Foundation Senior Community Service Employment Program assists unemployed Franklin, Delaware and Licking county workers age 55 and over with securing employment. The program offers paid work experience, specialized training, upgrading of skills and job-search assistance. Age, income and residency requirements apply. Early Childhood Resource Network, Child Check developmental screenings for children ages 1 month through 5 years, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 4456 Morse Road. The screenings cover the areas of gross motor, fine motor, speech and language and personal-social skills. A hearing screening is provided along with vision screenings for children older than age 3. Diabetes Academy, presented by the Wexner Heritage Village Institute, 2 to 3 p.m. Mondays at Wexner Heritage Village, 1151 College Ave. Patients with diabetes and their loved ones are invited for a free educational series taught by certified diabetes instructors. Topics are: Sept. 16, Diabetes & Staying Healthy: Eating healthy and staying active; Oct. 7, Diabetes & Nutrition: Cooking demonstrations and dietitian guidance; and Nov. 4, Insulin 101: The basics of insulin and how to us a flex pen. Central Ohio Diabetes Association, free educational program with diabetes care advocate Amy Hayes, 6 p.m. Aug. 29 at 1100 Dennison Ave. The program, "Taking Control," will focus on diabetes self-management and lifestyle strategies based on Hayes' extensive training and personal experience living with diabetes.
