Merion Village Festival set to combine events
The Merion Village Association will combine two popular events this fall as a way to support local businesses and promote neighborhood pride.
The Merion Village Festival, which will merge the annual block party and Crafters, an artisan market, will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 6.
"We just decided mixing the two together would be good for both events," said Sarah Roell, co-chairwoman of the event.
"I think it's just a nice combination as well and appeal to a wide variety of people," Roell said.
The festival will be held in Moeller Park, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and is soon getting a new playground.
"We just thought it was a great opportunity for the neighborhood to enjoy the wonderful park we have at the center of our community," she said, adding Bruck Street will be closed for the duration of the event.
The festival is open to all crafters, artisans and local businesses. The deadline to register is Sept. 27. Registration can be performed by sending email to Roell at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Each 10-by-10-foot spot will cost $25 for Merion Village Association members and $35 for non-members.
Nonprofit groups will be permitted a single 10-by-10-foot space at no cost, pending approval of the Merion Village Festival Committee.
Additional spaces can be purchased as needed, Roell said.
Vendors will be responsible for setting up their own space, including providing their own table, chairs, tent and other related items.
"We're hoping to get a lot of new artists," Roell said.
"We also want to have local business to have local booths set up so people can get to know them."
Unlike past block parties, there will be no potluck this year, Roell said. It was too difficult to coordinate, so food trucks will provide victuals at the party, she said.
"We wanted to make it more about local vendors and local businesses," Roell said.
"The food trucks were another way we could bring that aspect into the party this year," she said. "There should be a good variety of food trucks and you should be able to find things at different price levels."
