Village Lights presented by Schmidt's is just around the corner, so I'm checking the 10-day forecast and getting really excited.

33 degrees. Snow!

With or without the snow, Village Lights is magical.

I say that in behalf of the dozens of people throughout Central Ohio who start calling us in July to ask when to mark their calendars for the event.

It is the perfect holiday kickoff that has become a tradition for thousands and thousands of visitors.

Luminaries lead you through our holiday-perfect brick streets, and surprises await around every corner.

Whether you can't wait to go see Tim at the Fudge Haus (I defy you to name someone with MORE holiday cheer) or anxiously await the arrival of the Village Singers carolers, you know what keeps bringing you back.

Our businesses are AMAZING. They create this event each year and they bring every ounce of their pride and creativity to the table.

I'll make mention of just a couple of things you hould not miss, but also refer you to the full listing of great holidays moments across the Village, which are listed on our website.

Schmidt's is our presenting sponsor this year for the first time. German Village and Schmidt's are 100 percent synonymous, so Schmidt's investment in this classic event was a no-brainer.

In addition to the restaurant on Kossuth, you can find their new Sausage Truck on Striezelmarkt in front of the Meeting Haus for a quick Bahama Mama or cream puff.

Striezelmarkt. Don't miss these dozen vendors all lined up together on the Meeting Haus platz, mimicking Columbus's sister city in Germany, Dresden.

You're going to find a whole host of great shopping there, including German Village Vet Hospital and Village Pet Supply (if you're shopping for Fiffy and Fido).

Photos with Buddy the Elf. This is a brilliant twist on the pose-with-Santa tradition, brought to you by the 6-foot, 8-inch "elf" agent of German Village Insurance (real name: Bryce).

Head over to St. Mary School to find Buddy, snap a pic, then download the following day from GVI's website.

While you're there, get your tree and greens for holiday decorating and support the school at the same time.

The horse-drawn carriage is back, thanks to German Village Chiropractors, and you cannot add more magic than this to your route through our streets. Pick-up and drop-off are right near Buddy's photo booth.

Not only is the Red Stable back in business this holiday for all of your local-artist and crafters shopping, but out front you can sample a delectable hot-chocolate recipe that belongs to Scrambler Marie's.

When you just can't resist and purchase that chocolately delight, Scrambler Marie's is going to donate the proceeds to the German Village Society. With my thanks.

These are just a very few of the specials and offers and magic moments planned for Dec. 1.

We look forward to welcoming you to visit from 6 to 10 p.m. And don't forget, at each stop you make, you can enter for another chance to win one of our two raffle baskets that allow you to experience even more of what our businesses have to offer!

See you there.
