Merion Village is the latest neighborhood to get in on a communitywide spring cleaning event.
The Merion Village Association is planning a neighborhood cleanup from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26.
Gloves, trash bags, trowels and shovels will be provided and volunteers are asked to bring additional gardening tools so everyone can contribute, said Tony Roell, president of the Merion Village Association.
"What we're really trying to do is spread out," he said.
Roell said the group plans to tackle three separate areas of the neighborhood: one litter patrol each for South Fourth Street and Whittier Street and Thurman Avenue.
Another group will begin to tackle the spring cleanup at Walker Bruck Pocket Park at the corner of Bruck and Morrill streets.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the Merion Village Association Information Center, 1330 S. Fourth St. to divide into groups.
When the day is done, some members plan to celebrate at a local restaurants, which has not yet been selected.
In other news from the neighborhood, the Merion Village yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 10.
The form to register for the map or to reserve a spot on the community lot at Moeller and South Fourth streets can be found on the MVA Facebook page, www.facebook.com/MerionVillageAssociation.

Individuals can bring food to the community lot. Meanwhile, the Explorers Club food truck and Bake Me Happy, a gluten-free bakery, will be on site.
Meanwhile, Roell said the event is a good time celebrated by many in the neighborhood, who try to sell merchandise on their front lawns and mingle with their neighbors.
"Come out, meet your neighbors, bring your friends along," Roell said.
"Stop by for food. Help promote the neighborhood."
