A food truck fest is returning to the Brewery District, and this time on a regular basis.
The first of this year's Food Truck First Thursdays will be held from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 5, in Brewmasters Gate and on Front and Liberty streets. The event is sponsored by the Brewery District Trade Association and the Central Ohio Food Truck Association.
Roughly a dozen food trucks are participating in the event, which will be held through November. (The July date might be changed from July 3 to July 10.)
The trucks will be located on Front and Liberty streets and inside Brewmasters Gate, where local band, Honey Compass, will perform and World of Beer will provide beer stations.
Admission is free.
Both the trade association and food truck association collaborated on Dia de Lost Food Trucks last Nov. 1.
"We did well," said Julie Klein, president of the Brewery District Trade Association. "We did well enough to revisit it to make it a monthly event."
But officials had a difficult time locking down Brewmasters Gate, 450 S. Front St., she said. Meanwhile, the city of Columbus was developing new rules for food trucks, so they decided to hold off, Klein said.
She said it's a great way to show off the Brewery District.
"We love it because the food trucks are a really good draw," said Klein, performer and marketing director of Shadowbox Live, which is located in the neighborhood.
"Even though you see them here and there, there aren't many places where you see them in one place," she said.
Profits from beer sales will benefit both of the nonprofit sponsor organizations.
