Charity Newsies, which has been providing children with new school clothes since 1907, will accept applications for the 2014-2105 school year from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 6, at the Parsons Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, 845 Parsons Ave.; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 27, at the South High Branch, 3540 S. High St.; as well as 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays starting Sept. 2, at its headquarters, 4300 Indianola Ave.
Applications will also be accepted from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday evenings September through October at the organization's headquarters.
Eligibility requirements include:
* Applications must be completed by a parent or legal guardian;
* Each applicant must live in Franklin County;
* Verified attendance at a Franklin County K-12 school (public, private, charter or parochial);
* Presentation of valid photo identification, Social Security card, and proof of income (a recent pay stub or Human Services Benefit summary).
Upon completion of the application, Charity Newsies volunteers will visit each applicant's home to determine the need of each school-age child. Once the visit is completed, the applicant will receive a clothing appointment to select a coat, shirts, pants, underwear and socks at the Charity Newsies' Store, located at the group headquarters.
Charity Newsies will host an open house from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 7, for community service organizations and schools interested in touring the facility and learning more about the group.
