Young professionals throughout central Ohio are invited to a gathering that will showcase a dozen neighborhoods and what makes them attractive.
The Columbus Young Professionals Club is holding the Discover Columbus Expo from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Vue, 95 Liberty St. in the Brewery District.
The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required and can be done at cypclub.com.
"With this event, as all things we do, we're always trying to build a sense of community in a community," said Derek Grosso, the CYP Club's president and CEO.
"Our members could be new to town and live in a different part of the city and not experience the entire city."
Discover Columbus will coincide with the launching of the latest edition of CitYPULSE: The Young Professionals Guide to Columbus, a magazine published annually.
Among the attractions is a so-called passport program, where 12 neighborhoods will feature a food, drink and activity partner.
In the Short North display, for example, Bakersfield will provide food, Brothers Drake Meadery will offer drinks and officials with High Ball Halloween will offer a preview of the upcoming event.
The other participating communities include Dublin, Gahanna, the University District, Clintonville, the Brewery District, German Village, Powell, Grandview Heights, Upper Arlington, Downtown and the Arena District.
Other features include on-stage entertainment and mini-performances from local arts organizations; "Charity Row," featuring more than a dozen nonprofit organizations that need volunteers; a networking beer garden; Columbus Transportation Pavilion; and community leaders.
Grosso, 34, said the CYP Club is geared toward anyone 21 to 45, but welcomes enthusiastic people of all ages. He said the club has about 20,000 members, 16,000 of whom participated in some event during the last year.
"Because we do so many events, we don't want to throw another party," he said. "I wanted to put something together that was geared toward learning more about the city."
Another participant is German Village. Schmidt's Sausage Haus und Restaurant is bringing the brats, Gresso's will pour the drinks and the German Village Society will have an information booth.
Meanwhile, Vernacular, Pistacia Vera, Harvest and G. Michael's have contributed items for an "Experience German Village" package that will be awarded through a social media raffle, said Mark Weiss, assistant for visitorism for the German Village Society.
"We wanted to offer a sample of German Village to an audience we feel can help ensure the successful future of the neighborhood's mission," Weiss said.
"We are very lucky to have community members and businesses that care so much to help support that engagement."
