The Grandview Area Chamber of Commerce's community directory has garnered a first place honor in the 2010 Suburban News of America Awards.

The directory, created in partnership with ThisWeek Community Newspapers, won first place in the Best Business Publication or Business Special Section category.

"It's so exciting to have our directory and our community receive this honor," said Michelle Wilson, the chamber's executive director. "We hadn't done a directory since 2004 and it's nice to get the recognition that says 'you got it right.'"

Working with ThisWeek, the chamber created a full-color directory that is greatly expanded over the previous effort, she said.

"We certainly wanted to spotlight our chamber members, but with the complete business and residential listings, it really serves as a true community directory," Wilson said.

The directory was distributed last March to more than 7,000 households in the Grandview area.

It included articles on the Grandview Yard development and the community's history, information regarding local government and schools, a listing of area organizations and churches and a walking map of Grandview Avenue.

Color photographs highlighting people and activities in the community are found throughout the pages.

"I've had nothing but positive feedback," Wilson said. "It's been received so beautifully in the community."

"It was such a wonderful experience working with ThisWeek," she said. "It was such a smooth and easy process working with them. The result was a directory we're very proud of."
