This weekend's menu of activities will include the fifth annual Taste of Grandview Heights

The Taste will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at McKinley Field.

At least 17 area restaurants will participate in the event, during which visitors will be able to sample menu items from the eateries.

"Unlike a lot of other Taste events around Columbus, our event is focused on local restaurants from the community," said Michelle Wilson, executive director of the Grandview Area Chamber of Commerce, which presents the event.

"We want to raise awareness of our local restaurants, so we limit the number of non-food vendors," she said. "We also don't serve alcohol, so it's a very family-friendly event."

This year's Taste will feature more participating restaurants than ever before, Wilson said.

"It should be interesting, because we've had some new restaurants open this year in Grandview, and a lot of them will be participating," she said. "It will give people a chance to sample their menus."

The restaurants will be preparing a variety of dishes to sample, Wilson said. Depending on the dish, samples cost from $1 to $5 each.

Judges will grant awards for the "Grandest" appetizers, entrees and desserts, she said.

Visitors will also be able to vote for their favorite in the People's Choice Award, Wilson said.

Entertainment will include Rockbridge Crossing, the Grandview JollySteppers and Marquis 66, she said.

Youngsters will be able to enjoy a bounce house, a giant slide, face painting and activities offered by the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Columbus Crew, Wilson said.

CD 101 at 102.5 will serve as media sponsor and emcee the event, she said. Nationwide Insurance is the main sponsor.

"The Taste of Grandview has become one of the largest events in the Grandview community," Wilson said. "I think a lot of people really look forward to it. It's become a fall tradition."
