The Edison Intermediate Middle School Commons will be turned into a coffee house Saturday during the annual Vocal Music Boosters Coffee House show.

The concert, featuring performances by the middle school and high school choirs, Grandview Singers and solo, duet and ensemble performances by high school students, will be held from 7 to 10 p.m.

Admission is $5 and includes coffee provided by Stauf's and dessert.

Proceeds benefit the Vocal Music Boosters, a parent organization that supports the district's vocal music program.

"We actually support both the vocal music and stage arts programs because Grandview doesn't have a drama department," boosters president Rachel Baker said.

The Boosters help pay the cleaning bills for choir uniforms, subsidize the trips to concerts and competitions undertaken by the choirs "and help out any other way we can," she said.

This will be the third year for the evening coffee house concert, Baker said.

"We used to have a morning pancake breakfast event, but we decided an evening event would be more convenient for people," she said.

On Saturday, the commons will be set up like an intimate coffee house with an array of small tables, Baker said.

The solo, duet and small ensemble performances featured along with the larger group selections were organized by the students, with the approval of vocal music teacher Andrew Grega, she said.

"It's nice for the students to get to try out their own ideas for songs," Baker said. "They'll either arrange their own accompaniment or have the teacher accompany them.

"It's going to be a really nice mix of music, a full three-hour show," she said. "People can come by, pay their admission, enjoy some music, coffee and a dessert and come and go when they want."

The event can make a nice stopover for people attending Saturday's Grandview Hop event, Baker said.

The Grandview Singers will have another upcoming special performance on Nov. 1 at Trinity United Methodist Church, she said.

The group will be performing with the Ohio State University Women's Glee Club and Kent State University Women's Chorus. The event will be held at 7 p.m.
