The city of Grandview Heights will kick off the holiday season with the annual lighting of the community Holiday Tree at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Grandview Center, 1515 Goodale Blvd.

“We’ll have a lot of food and fun activities planned,” recreation supervisor Marta Durban said.

The evening will include carol singing and refreshments and performances by the Tri-Village Dulcimers, the Grandview Singers, a Grandview Heights High School choral group under the direction of vocal music teacher Andrew Grega, and a performance by cast members of the community play production of “Cinderella The Musical” under the direction of Julie DuSablon.

During the event, the winners of a holiday coloring contest, co-sponsored by Grandview Parks and Recreation and Members First Credit Union, will be announced, recreation supervisor Mike Patterson said.

All entries must be turned in at the parks department office or Members First by noon, Dec. 5. Winners in each of four age categories will be awarded a $25 savings account certificate.

Youngsters can pick up a picture to color at the parks department office, Members First, Stevenson Elementary and Edison Intermediate/Middle School.

The organizers of the Grandview Hop are also getting into seasonal gear, and will present a Holiday Hop from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1.The event will feature photos with Santa at the Grandview Center, trolley rides along Grandview Avenue, carolers and festive decorations, and treats at local stores and businesses.

The village of Marble Cliff will hold its annual holiday party for residents and their grandchildren from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Our Lady of Victory Parish Center, 1541 Roxbury Road.

Invitations will be mailed this week and residents are asked to RSVP, village fiscal officer Cindy McKay said.

Refreshments will be served and Santa will make an appearance, McKay said.

“This year we’re having a craft activity that adults and children can do together to make craft gifts that we will be donating to a homeless shelter,” she said.

The city of Grandview Heights and the Grandview Heights Public Library will be sponsoring Santa’s visit to the community on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Santa will pay a visit from 11 a.m. to noon at the library, 1685 W. First Ave.

Pictures will be taken of each child with Santa free of charge. Photographs can be picked up at the library beginning Dec. 16.

The library will host special holiday concerts as part of its Music in the Atrium series.

The Grandview Singers will perform its holiday show at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 in the atrium.

The Central Ohio Harp Organization will perform seasonal favorites, Celtic music and other selections on string harps at 7 p.m. Dec. 8.

Also at 7 p.m. Dec. 8, Imaginating Dramatics will perform “North Pole Musical: One Singular Sensation Holiday Review” at the library.

The show is for ages 5 and up.
