Yogi Perogi opening on Grandview Avenue
Call it fusion food — pierogi-style.
At Yogi Perogi, which will open next week on Grandview Avenue, customers could get a traditional Polish pierogi filled with potato and cheese, as well as mushroom and Swiss; spinach and feta covered with tzatziki sauce; and a Reuben with corned beef and sauerkraut.
Owner John Wagner said all pierogi and homemade soups would be made in-house. Combos will be $6 to $8 and pierogi $1.50 each. A few sides also will be offered.
The restaurant will be in the old Columbus Cheesecake Co. site at 1413 Grandview Ave.
Wagner, formerly of Hania’s Old World Cuisine, a North Market kiosk that since has changed its name, said he believes pierogi are popular right now.
“I just saw how excited people got about them,” he said.
The restaurant, which will occupy 890 square feet of space, will be mostly carryout, with seating for 10.
Wagner said he plans to experiment with other styles of dumplings, from Asian to Italian to German.
