Glass Axis Studio's annual holiday sale will give shoppers a chance not only to purchase gifts for the season, but also to make their own decorative items.
The event will take place from noon to 7 p.m. Dec. 7 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 8-9 at the studio, 1341 Norton Ave., Columbus.
"We'll have thousands of locally made glass pieces, all created by members of our studio," said Eva Ball, Glass Axis executive director.
The sale items will include jewelry, holiday decorations, sculptures, stained-glass pieces "and all kinds of other glass artwork," she said.
Many of the items will be on sale at discounted prices, Ball said.
Throughout the weekend, Glass Axis artist instructors will offer workshops to give visitors a chance to experience for themselves the art of glass-making, she said.
The workshops will run from 1 to 6 p.m. Dec. 7 and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 8-9.
A blown-glass ornament activity is for ages 12 and up. Participants will shape and blow molten glass into a globe-shaped ornament. Cost is $25 per ornament.
A torch-worked bead workshop is open to those ages 6 and up. Participants will use smaller torches to heat and form glass into a candy-shaped bead. The cost is $15 per bead.
"The workshops are all first-come, first-served and there's no reservations required," Ball said. "People can expect a line for some of the workshops, so you can sign up and look around at the sale items while you wait."
Glass Axis offers workshops throughout the year, she said, but the activities scheduled for the holiday sale are particularly popular.
"We have a few families who attend our holiday workshops as part of their annual holiday tradition," Ball said.
Glass Axis was founded in 1987 as a nonprofit organization by graduates of Ohio State University's glass program. The studio includes both warm and hot glass facilities, a cold shop for grinding and polishing and a variety of equipment for making glass art.
It relocated into the Grandview area in 2001.
