Lazy Daze planners preparing for 20th festival

Winter may still be the season, but the Grandview Heights/Marble Cliff Arts Council already is hard at work planning the 20th annual Lazy Daze of Summer Festival.

This year's event will be held Saturday, July 27, on the lawn and streets around the Grandview Heights Public Library.

"It's really hard to believe its been 20 years since the first festival," said Ruthanne James, arts council president and co-chairwoman of the event with Jeri Diehl Cusack.

"Jeri helped start the festival all those years ago and it's amazing how it's grown from those early years," James said.

"Our goal was starting a scholarship, and the big announcement for 2013 is that instead of one $500 scholarship, this year we will be offering two $1,000 awards to deserving Grandview-area students," James said. "The only reason we are able to do that is because of all the support we've received from residents and Grandview businesses."

The scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors planning to pursue a major related to the arts, she said.

The arts council is accepting applications from craft exhibitors interested in participating in this year's festival, James said.

"It's a juried show and we always try to come up with a list of artists displaying a good variety of handcrafted items," she said.

Applications are available at the arts council website, ghmcartscouncil.org. The deadline to apply is April 30.

Area businesses and organizations have until April 15 to sign up as a platinum sponsor of the festival.

For $1,000, platinum sponsors will receive a featured lawn location for all seven hours of the festival, with their logo included on posters and their name on all other publicity.

Other sponsorship levels are gold ($500), which provides the chance to be on site in a shared location for seven hours; silver ($250), offering to be on site in a shared location for 31/2 hours; and bronze ($100), which entitles a sponsor to be on site in a shared location for one hour.

Other application deadlines are May 13 for food vendors and June 30 to participate in the business or community showcases.
