Two local council, board hopefuls ruled off Nov. 5 ballot

The race for Marble Cliff Village Council may turn out not to be much of a contest after all.

The Franklin County Board of Elections on Monday, Aug. 19, announced Joanne Taylor's name had been removed from the fall ballot because her declaration of candidacy was signed at the time of filing instead of prior to petition circulation.

Taylor was one of five candidates who filed to run for four seats on Village Council. If the board's decision stands, the race would be uncontested.

The board also removed Grandview Heights school board member Katie Clifford from the ballot. Clifford was found to have an incomplete circulator statement, meaning her petition or witness statement was missing the required number of signatures, according to the board of elections.

Clifford was one of three candidates filing to run for three seats on the school board.

Neither Clifford or Taylor were available for comment early this week.

They have the option to file as write-in candidates. The deadline to file is 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26.
