Package left near Stevenson Elementary spurs bomb-squad investigation

Stevenson Elementary School’s afternoon Halloween parade is still on Thursday, Oct. 31, after the bomb squad was called to inspect a package left outside a nearby restaurant in the morning.

Grandview Superintendent Ed O’Reilly said a small package was found outside Marshall’s restaurant, located across First Avenue from the school. As a precaution, the Grandview Heights Fire Department, in cooperation with the Columbus Bomb Squad, investigated.

Stevenson students were kept inside the building for the duration of the investigation, O’Reilly said, adding district leaders consulted with safety officials on-site and determined there was no need to evacuate the building.

The package was found to contain personal property belonging to an unknown person. The district was given the all-clear signal by city officials at around 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.
