PTO's annual flower sale will run through April 4

It's time again for an annual event that serves as a perennial source of funds for the Grandview 4-8 PTO.

The PTO is taking orders for its yearly flower sale.

Between $2,500 and $3,000 is raised each year from the sale, said Kim Rowland, who co-chairs the event with Vikki Amicon.

"We use the money we raise to help fund programs like the All Arts Day and the Artists in the Schools program," Rowland said. "We just recently had an artist work with the fourth grade, helping them write plays that they later performed."

The plants available for purchase and their costs include perennials in a three-inch pot, $4 each; annuals in flats, $15 per flat; annuals in 41/2 inch pots, $4 each; herbs, $4 each; and vegetables, $3.50 each.

Hanging baskets cost $20 each and Mother's Day gifts and specialty plants range from $10 to $15.

"The pick-up day for the flowers is always the Friday before Mother's Day," Rowland said. "A lot of people buy flowers for themselves, but many people also give them as Mother's Day gifts."

The deadline for orders is April 4.

Orders will be available to pick up between 2 and 5:30 p.m. May 9 at the Edison Intermediate annex on First Avenue.

Delivery is available for an additional fee, Rowland said.

The plants are provided by deMonye's and Thorsen's greenhouses.

"They do a wonderful job for us," Rowland said. "People are always so pleased with the flowers they purchase."

Order forms are available in the offices of all three Grandview schools and via the PTO website,

Plant descriptions also are available at the website.

Order forms may be turned in to the middle school or elementary school offices with payment. Those who wish to use Paypal may email orders to
