Columbus man arrested in Grandview burglary, under investigation for other break-ins

Grandview Heights police have arrested and charged a Columbus man in connection to a burglary that occurred overnight June 11-12 at a home in the 1100 block of Lincoln Road.

Damien B. Smith, 22, of Eldon Avenue has been charged with one count of receiving stolen property, Grandview police detective Ryan Starns said.

A bicycle was stolen from an unsecured garage at the Lincoln Road residence, Starns said.

Smith also is being investigated as a possible suspect in a number of recent burglaries that occurred in Grandview, he said, including another that took place the same night as the Lincoln Road incident.

The other cases all occurred overnight June 6-7 at three homes in the 1100 block of Glenn Avenue, a house in the 1200 block of Westwood Avenue and a residence in the 1000 block of Lincoln Avenue.

In each case, a garage or residence was entered through an unlocked or open. Purses, wallets, cash and small electronic devices were the burglar's focus, Starns said.

"We are always stressing how important it is for residents to secure the doors to their homes and garages," he said.

Police are investigating the possibility that more than one person was involved in the burglaries, Starns said.

Smith is being held at the Franklin County jail, he said.

He was known as being a frequent visitor to the Grandview area, usually seen riding a bicycle or on foot, according to police.
