First Baptist Church of Grove City, currently located at 2730 Kingston Ave., will be moving to a new location at 3301 Orders Road.

Members of the congregation held a groundbreaking ceremony last month.

First Baptist Church was established in 1955 and ground was broken on the Kingston Avenue site the following year, according to spokesman Ed Hardman. The Rev. Jerry L. Neal served as senior minister at First Baptist for 22 years during which time the building was enlarged twice.

"The facility can no longer be expanded to meet the needs of the church on this property," according to Hardman. The Kingston Avenue church is also home to the King's Kids Daycare Center.

"Their present plans are to expand their program and remain at that location," Hardman indicated.

The new building on Orders Road was designed by the Don Highlander Architectural Firm of Aurora. The Hughes Construction Co. of Newark is the building contractor. Marc Wells, a Grove City resident and member of FirstBaptist, is the construction coordinator for this project. The new building will be a little over 32,000 square feet in its firstphase.

The main structure will be a multi purpose auditorium with twoeducational wings dedicated to classroom space for children and youth ministries.

There will also be an enclosed shelter house and four athletic fields for the new Upwards Sports Program that First Baptist is starting this coming fall, the spokesman said in an announcement. "First Baptist Church is looking forward to opening the new building toGrove City and surrounding area residents to worship and celebratesometime between Thanksgiving and the first of the year, if the weatheris cooperative," according to Hardman.
