It was in 1953 that The Grove City Record called upon local citizens to arm themselves with shovels and meet at the new Community Park to help finish the new baseball fields.

That marked the beginnings of what is today Windsor Park, 4330 Dudley Ave., the hub of Youth Baseball in Grove City.

City officials and local residents will be celebrating 55 years of Youth Baseball at the park on opening day, May 3.

Games will begin at 9 a.m.

Mayor Richard L. "Ike" Stage will throw out the first pitch. A total of 41 games are on top involving players ages 5 to 16.

"The Grove City Parks and Recreation Department is proud of its many Youth Baseball sponsors," according to a spokeswoman. "The Grove City Evening Lions Club has been a sponsor of this the program's inception in 1953.

"The program again this year is supported by local businesses, community organizations and volunteer youth coaches."
