Lindsey Barrick, the daughter of Leon and Beverly Barrick of Grove City, received her masters in public health degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore on Wednesday, May 21.

She had previously earned an undergraduate degree in materials engineering from the University of Cincinnati and has completed two years of a doctor of osteopathy degree at Ohio University in Athens.

Following her graduation in Baltimore, she will return to Ohio University and to Southpointe Hospital in Cleveland to complete her medical education.

Shawn Burton, who graduated from Grove City High School in 2003, completed his distinguished undergraduate work in April at the University of Pittsburgh, attaining Summa Cum Laude status with a grade point average of 3.91.

He is the son of David and Candy Burton of Grove City.

Shawn Burton had a dual major and attained Bachelor of Science degrees in both bioengineering and microbiology, with a minor in chemistry.

Among his others honors were designation as a University Scholar; member of Alpha Eta Mu Beta Biomedical Engineering Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Sigma Alpha Lambda National Leadership and Honors Organization and Golden Key National Honor Society; and he was designated a School of Engineering Honor Student placing on the Dean's Honor List for every semester.

"Shawn was attending on a University of Pittsburgh Full Tuition Honors Scholarship and also received an undergraduate research fellowship," according to his proud father.

"Shawn has accepted an offer from the University of Pittsburgh's Swanson School of Engineering where he'll be pursuing his Ph.D. in neural bioengineering. In addition, he was chosen to receive a very competitive Dean's Fellowship award in recognition of his research potential."

Richard Conner and Brock Mitchem, both from Grove City, recently received master of education degrees from Ashland University.

Both also majored in educational administration at the private, comprehensive institution located in north central Ohio.
