The Gardens at Gantz Farm is currently accepting applications for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer.

We have 75 volunteers at the present time who support the Gardens at Gantz Farm in various ways," according to Gloria Hartung, garden education coordinator. "They put on a one-day educational Horticultural Symposium in March, host a one-day herb and perennial sale in May, set out a table at the Grove City Farmers Market during Saturdays in July, lead garden tours, teach or assist with workshops for the public, host garden-related events, plant with residents at local assisted living facilities and, of course, work in the gardens.

"The opportunities are many and varied for beginner or advanced gardeners, or even those with no gardening experience at all."

Classes will be on Thursday evenings at 7 in the Gantz Farmhouse, 2255 Home Road.

"These classes will give a history of the Gantz Family, the development of the gardens, and an overview of the various theme gardens on the property," according to Hartung.

There are five classes in all.

For information on dates and to arrange a time to pick up a registration form, call Hartung at 871-6323.

An open public meeting will be held this evening (Thursday, July 31) from 7 to 8 p.m. in City Hall, 4035 Broadway, to update the members of the community on the status of the water and drainage issue discussed at the May meeting concerning Demorest Road Park.

"We will hear from the city's engineering consultant and the city's service director," according to a spokeswoman.

After a resolution to the drainage issue has been determined and approved we can hold another meeting to discuss the future public use of the land."
