Grove City area resident Dan "Boots" Longenette's "Auto Smarts 4 U" television show will debut on radio on 103.9 WTDA-FM starting Sunday, Sept. 28, at 9 a.m.

The one-hour weekly program will "deal with all things on wheels," according to co-host Randy Rhinehart.

Grove City Rotary Club member Longenette has more than 20 years of experience in the automotive industry. He will "share his knowledge and sense of humor with his listeners in a variety of ways," according to Rhinehart.

Longenette also hosts a weekly half-hour TV show on GTN Saturday mornings at 11.

The radio show will offer a number of different segments including:

"The Weekly Dollar Stretcher," with Longenette offering ideas to help extend the life of vehicles and improve gas mileage.

"Sledgehammer or Fuzzy Dice." "Boots will let you know what he likes or what has him riled in the world of wheels."

"Letter Litter Bag," a chance to e-mail Longenette an automotive question and get a live answer on the air. The e-mail address may be found at autosmarts4u.com.

Nearly half of each weekly hour-long show will be devoted to listeners who call in their questions at 821-1039 about all things on wheels.

"Wheels and Squeals," a recap and preview of the world of racing.

The Grove City Friends of the Skate Park will hold a skateboarding competition on Saturday, Oct. 4.

Proceeds will help pay for skate park maintenance and improvements, as well as provide funds for future events.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the cost is $10. The competition begins at 11 a.m.

Participants will compete in one of three divisions: beginner, intermediate and advanced. The street and bowl divisions will be judged by a panel of experienced skateboarders and prizes will be awarded to the top three places in these divisions.

All participants in the beginner division will receive a prize.

A raffle featuring skate decks, trucks, wheels, a wave board, rollerblades, a Flip video camera, T-shirts, gift certificates and more will also be held.

"Skaters of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate," according to a Parks and Recreation Department spokeswoman. "The event is expected to attract skaters from across Ohio. "

The Grove City Skate Park will be closed to non-participants for the duration of the competition.

In case of inclement weather, the contest will be held on Sunday, Oct. 5.

Information about event cancellations is available on the Parks and Recreation information line at 614-277-3060.
