Central Crossing High School softball coach Rick Wemlinger was fired Nov. 10 by athletics director Zoraba Ross.

The move has yet to be made official by the school board, but according to Wemlinger the position already has been made available to in-house applicants.

Wemlinger, who spent 14 seasons as a varsity assistant at Ready, lasted two seasons at Central Crossing and guided the Comets to a program-record for wins last year, finishing 14-10 overall after the team went 11-13 in his first season.

When Wemlinger was hired before the start of the 2007 season, he became the program's third coach in five seasons.

The move came as a shock to Wemlinger, who had been overseeing offseason workouts during the fall.

"I had the best intentions for these girls," Wemlinger said. "It's very upsetting for me. I wanted to be there."
