Auditions are scheduled Jan. 11 and 12 for the Little Theatre Off Broadway's upcoming production of "Dearly Departed," a special 50th-anniversary season reprisal performance of shows from the troupe's long history.

Auditions will take place at 7 p.m. both days at the theatre, 3891 Broadway.

The show calls for six adult women, ages 20 through 80, and five adult men, ages 20 through 80. Auditions will consist of cold reads from the provided script. Director Mark Sartor will have all characters perform American Southern accents.

Rehearsals will run Sundays through Wednesdays from 7 to 10 p.m.  Those planning to try out for parts are asked to bring a calendar of rehearsal conflicts to the audition.

Acting resumes and photos are helpful but not necessary.

The full-length comedy was written in 1991 by David Dean Bottrell and Jessie Jones, both Kentucky born actors.

A plot summary, provided by a Little Theatre Off Broadway spokesperson, states:

"The beleaguered Turpin family proves that living and dying in the South are seldom tidy and always hilarious. The Turpins' problems threaten the solemn occasion of their father's funeral. Amidst chaos, they seek the comfort of a community of misfit friends and neighbors who pull together and help each other through their time of need."

" 'Dearly Departed' received such favorable reviews and widespread productions, that (the authors) began working on a movie version which appeared in 2001 entitled 'Kingdom Come,' " according to the Web site of the Little Theatre of Western Springs in Illinois, one of numerous groups to stage the play in recent years.
